Easy: The two Sava rivers Bled Loop
Distance and elevation: 34.7 kilometers · +605 m / -605 m
A diverse and enjoyable loop around Lake Bled that reveals some of the quieter corners of the area while still capturing the atmosphere of one of Slovenia’s most famous destinations.
The ride begins by leaving Bled through the peaceful grounds of the local golf course before joining smooth gravel trails that cross the open fields surrounding the town. These quiet paths provide a relaxed start away from the main tourist routes.
Soon the route crosses the Sava Dolinka and climbs toward the hilltop Church of St. Catherine, where beautiful views open across the valley and surrounding mountains.
From the church the road descends through small villages before joining part of the local beekeeping route toward Krnica, a traditional village known for its strong beekeeping heritage.
Returning toward Bled, the route briefly follows the scenic lakeshore before continuing across the Sava Bohinjka. A particularly peaceful section then runs along the quiet riverside toward Bodešče before the final short ride back to Bled.
This loop is a great way to experience the countryside surrounding Lake Bled, combining scenic viewpoints, traditional villages, and enjoyable gravel paths in a compact ride. To be honest, it is only really easy on an e-bike as it still has quite some elevation gain. But it is really simple to shorten it in many ways.
Moderate: The pastures under Mt. Stol
Distance and elevation: 32.7 kilometers · +898 m / -898 m
One of the best viewpoints above Lake Bled, this loop climbs into the foothills of the Karawanks and rewards riders with wide alpine views and peaceful mountain pastures. It is very accessible on an e-bike, while gravel riders looking for a bit of challenge will also enjoy the steady climb.
Leaving Bled, the route begins across the flat countryside toward Žirovnica before reaching the small reservoir at Završnica, a quiet corner at the foot of the Karawanks.
From here a gradual gravel climb leads into the mountains toward Zabreška planina. This alpine pasture is the highlight of the ride, offering one of the most beautiful panoramic viewpoints in the area. From here you can look out across the Ljubljana Basin toward Bled and the Julian Alps, while the steep slopes of the Karawanks rise just above you.
The route continues along the pastures on a natural trail traverse to Žirovniška planina before reaching Valvasorjev dom pod Stolom, a popular mountain hut and a perfect place to stop for a snack or a drink.
After the break, descend back toward Završnica and finish the loop on relaxed gravel roads running alongside the railway before crossing the golf course area and returning to Bled.
Moderate: Radovna Valley and Jesenice Loop
Distance and elevation: 46.7 kilometers · +789 m / -789 m
A beautiful road ride from Bled into one of the most peaceful alpine valleys in Slovenia. This loop combines quiet countryside roads, impressive mountain scenery, and a long stretch through the tranquil Radovna Valley.
Leaving Bled, the route heads toward the village of Krnica before entering the Radovna Valley, a narrow and scenic road that runs deep into the heart of Triglav National Park. Surrounded by forests and alpine peaks, this section offers some of the most serene riding in the region, with very little traffic and constant views of the Julian Alps.
The road gradually leads north to Mojstrana, a small alpine town located at the entrance to several famous valleys beneath Mount Triglav.
From Mojstrana the route turns south along the wider valley through Jesenice before continuing on quieter local roads through Kočna and back toward Bled.
You can extend this route very lovely:
a) to Kranjska Gora with an out and back along the cycling path.
b) to Vrata valley along a newly paved mountain road that features one of the steepest climbs in Slovenia (very short though!).
Challenging: Pokljuka & Bohinj Loop
Distance and elevation: 69.4 kilometers · +1,439 m / -1,440 m
This adventurous loop from Bled leads deep into the forests and high plateaus above the lake, visiting one of the most iconic alpine pasture landscapes in Slovenia.
The ride begins on the new cycling path heading toward Bohinj, a smooth and scenic route that follows the valley away from the main traffic. The path offers relaxed riding through villages and open countryside as you approach the foothills of the Pokljuka Plateau.
Gravel riders then turn onto a forest road climbing steadily toward Zajamniki. This remarkable alpine pasture is famous for its long line of traditional wooden shepherd huts set along a ridge, with sweeping views toward the peaks of the Julian Alps. It is one of the most photographed mountain landscapes in Slovenia and a true highlight of the ride.
After enjoying the views, the route continues across the vast forested plateau of Pokljuka before descending back toward Bled.
For riders on road bikes, a fully paved alternative is available. Instead of climbing to Zajamniki, continue toward Jereka and climb the quiet mountain road through Koprivnik v Bohinju before reconnecting with the route across Pokljuka and descending back to Bled.
This loop offers a fantastic combination of cycling paths, alpine forests, and one of Slovenia’s most spectacular mountain pastures.
Challenging: St. Jamnik & Bohinj Loop
Distance and elevation: 73.7 kilometers · +1,441 m / -1,442 m
This scenic loop from Bled combines iconic viewpoints, peaceful forest roads, and a chance to explore some of the region’s most historic alpine villages.
The ride begins along the Sava Dolinka toward Lancovo and Kropa. Kropa is a small, picturesque town historically known as the center of Slovenia’s ironworking industry.
From Kropa, a steady climb takes you to the hilltop St. Jamnik, one of Slovenia’s most photographed churches. Perched on a narrow ridge above the valley, St. Jamnik offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Julian Alps, Bled, and the surrounding valleys.
Continuing from the church, the route heads toward Dražgoše, a historic mountain village known for its role in World War II during the Battle of Dražgoše. Today it is a peaceful settlement with scenic alpine views, commemorative monuments, and a strong connection to Slovenian history.
From Dražgoše, the ride traverses the forested Jelovica Plateau along quiet gravel roads almost free from traffic, passing open meadows and dense forest sections. The loop then descends toward Bohinjska Bistrica and follows the new cycling route back to Bled.
