First visit to Slovenia and it is a truly beautiful country. Very diverse in a small area, so you can move from mountains to rolling wine-growing hills and then a beach is just a few hours.

Our group of 3 had a great experience working with Nejc at Hour Away to plan a fantastic 12-day bike tour in Slovenia. 2 of us rented bikes and touring gear (1 e-bike and 1 mountain bike) - both bikes were well maintained and we had no issues with them during our tour. 

We wanted more flexibility than a typical guided or self-guided tour, and Nejc suggested an ideal route for us through gorgeous areas, checked in with us periodically during our tour, offering advice about potential road closures due to weather and other helpful suggestions. Slovenian Western Loop Bikepacking

We wanted to acknowledge Hour Away and our host, Nejc, for a fantastic bike tour in Slovenia. We spent 5 days in mid September/24 touring with Nejc on mountain e-bikes. We appreciated the philosophy, flexibility and details Nejc provided from the beginning to the end of the trip, especially how he sources local and sustainable aspects of travel. These included excellent e-bikes, top notch transportation, reliability, fantastic accommodation and intelligent and thought provoking conversation. 

Through Nejc, we learned so much about so many facets of Slovenia; geography, geology, agriculture, education, culture and history. Amazing all that can happen while you mountain bike your way through the stunning country of Slovenia!

Slovenian Alps E-Bike Trip

The 2 days I spent riding with HourAway in early May remain a highlight of this year. To be a great bike guide you need to love both cycling and your country. 

With Nejc I felt as if I was visiting an old friend so he can show me his favorite riding spots. The places we visited were spectacular, the routes - carefully planned for my skill level so they would be just a tiny bit challenging without ever feeling overwhelming. I can’t think of a single thing in this trip which has not been perfect and I am looking forward to picking up where we left the next time I visit Ljubljana.

Guided Slovenia Bike Tour

Nejc Peternell made this trip one of the most memorable of my life. Seeing the Slovenia he obviously loves for the first time in the early fall was magical for us and Nejc knew the most special places to access by foot and bike for their full beauty.  Nejc's enthusiasm for his country , its food and wines, its spectacular geography and its people was endearing and contagious. His relationships with passionate small business owners allowed us intimate local experiences with tastings and lodgings and we were received as friends in their spaces of work and  life. This was possible because Nejc understands physical and psychological logistics .  

Our group of six worked together extremely well tho we varied in age and abilities.  Our bikes were top of the line powerful machines that he carefully maintained daily.  Nejc knew how far to push us and accepted our suggestions regarding our itinerary. We were rewarded with lovely accommodations, only changing sites every other day.  We accomplished more than I imagined we would and I feel I truly know Slovenia because of his attention to the beautiful, "worth it" people, places and experiences his small jewel homeland has to offer.

I would go again tomorrow!

Nejc with Hour Away was professional and easy to communicate with, treating us as if we were friends borrowing bikes. We rented gravel bikes that were equipped with everything we needed for an epic week-long tour through Slovenia and Italy!

Epic Climbs: The Ultimate Road Cycling Adventure Through Slovenia, Austria, and Italy

I took the Mountain Bike tour with Hour Away in September 2025 from the Alps to the Adriatic. It really was one of my most incredible travel experiences and I still look at my photos weekly.

Even though I’m not an avid gravel biker I learned so much about gravel biking and really did enjoy all of the bike trips. We were able to see so much of Slovenia and understand the beauty and uniqueness of this country. I loved every one of the side trips that Hour Away put together. The caves, organic gardens and dinner and the wineries.  It was so fun to meet so many locals who were passionate about their jobs and their country. I was so impressed with the agenda that was put together.  Each of the small hotels that we stayed at were both unique and amazing in the care and welcoming that was provided to us.

Bled to Piran: Western Slovenia Traverse

There are so many stunningly beautiful  places to visit in the world, Slovenia being one of my favorites, but it’s how you get to experience those places that make vacations truly magical. Touring with Nejc and Uros  of Hour Away Tours was everything i could have hoped for in a trip.  Born and raised in  Slovenia, they know the country inside and out. The beautiful, secluded trails and roads we biked and hiked  on, the information on each area they’d share with us, the incredible people they introduced us to who were so passionate about the wines they produced, the food  they were serving you,  the guesthouses they ran,  all these things just created such a fantastic experience.  

The tour  is scheduled so every day was different and often they had surprises for us throughout the day. Having two guides we were able to split into different levels of challenges so some would take a more difficult route and some would go with something more comfortable for them. I can’t even begin to put into words how wonderful this trip was. I highly recommend treating yourself to touring with Hour Away.

It’s hard to find the words to describe how wonderful our adventure was with Hour-Away Tours in September 2025. We and eight friends and family did a custom Alps to Adriatic tour with Nejc and Uroš for 12 fun, adventure filled days and nights.

We had met Nate a couple years before on a one day, bicycling adventure in the valley of his home and enjoyed it so much.

We have had the pleasure to do many European bike trips but nothing compares to the spender of the mountains in the country of Slovenia.

Exploring the Hidden Gems of the Slovenian Alps

We had the most amazing experience on the Self-guided hut-to-hut hike in Triglav National Park over 5 days in Aug/Sept.

Travelling from overseas (Australia) we were looking for a tour we could do on our own, but with the confidence that it was planned and organised by locals who knew the area.  From an initial video chat with Klemen we felt comfortable that we were in good hands and this continued throughout with advice about what to bring, detailed online maps and tips and suggestions about where we were going.  They even personalised the tour for us with accommodation at the start and the end of the trip.

Hut to Hut hiking in Triglav National Park

Our 2 day guided bike experience surrounded by the Julian Alps and Triglav National Park was a highlight of our visit to Slovenia.

Uroš (our guide) was a pleasure to ride with and shared a wealth of knowledge about Slovenia and the surrounding area. He met us each morning at our different hotels with our high quality well tuned e-bikes. Really enjoyed the beautiful views from our delicious lunch stops. Riding in early October snow was challenging, but highlighted the scenery. Would highly recommend this experience.

We did a 7 day bike ride across Slovenia with these guys. It was amazing. They planned the route, got us beautiful road bikes, booked the hotels, did the van support, shared local history and were just fun to hang out with. 

I also ruined my iPhone in the rain and our guide found a replacement on Facebook marketplace, and went to buy it for me — truly above and beyond. I can’t say enough good things about them.

Our recent Alps to Adriatic E bike tour was fantastic!  Our guide and now friend, Nejc was wonderful!  His enthusiasm for sharing unique, outstanding Slovenian places and people made for a very enjoyable holiday!.  He was great at reading the group and filling the days with memorable experiences,  We loved getting to know the two other couples on our trip!     

Slovenia is so beautiful!  It is a paradise for cyclist, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.  Our e-bikes were of high quality and our routes were so much fun!  It is obvious that Nejc had carefully selected each route.  Just a few of our unique experiences included biking through the mountain village where Nejc’s family still lives, a surprise picnic at a hilltop church yard, an impromptu accordion performance at a mountain hut, a special meal at an organic farm and wine tasting at a family run winery.

My wife and I have done many bike trips.  We consider this one.to be at the top and we hope to travel again with Nejc as guide!

Ljubljana to Lake Bled on Hidden Hills Trail & Bled to Piran: Western Slovenia Traverse

Nejc was a fantastic guide and tailored the Alps to Adriatic trip to our party taking into account our individual preferences. The mix between e-MTB and hiking was perfect, with other traditional experiences adding loads of flavour. Nejc removed all the stress of logistics and navigation from us and got us off the beaten track, away from tourists. He took great pride in his country Slovenia and guided with humour and passion. We got a real insight into what Slovenians (like Nejc) value and how they live. It would be hard to pick one day over the next; it just seemed to get better and better!

The accommodation was often in small (medieval) villages and in pension style hotels with character and equally passionate hosts. The whole experience was fantastic, with every day equaling the previous. From Ljubljana to Izola, what a blast!

Wow! That was an amazing trip.

Hats off to hour-away for a truly unforgettable experience. We did the route thru the mountains down the soca valley to the coast.

The gravel route was perfectly selected to show some amazing lesser visited parts of Slovenia, lots of variety from alpine climbs to meadows, vineyards, riverside tracks, rail trail tunnels all the way to the picturesque Piran.

The self guide for each day’s ride was great, loved the info about things to do and see along the way. The hotels chosen were really good, clean and comfy. We did an e-bike and a regular gravel bike, both were well maintained, and suitable for the route. The tracks were mainly off road, or quiet local streets thru villages and towns.

Organizing our self-guided bike trip with HourAway was an unforgettable experience and highly recommended.

We chose the Western Loop with the Julian Alps, and from the very beginning, their flexibility and attentiveness made the difference compared to other companies we consulted.

Communication was swift, both before and during the trip. They provided us with accurate information for each day, relevant and interesting information about places of interest at each stage, restaurant recommendations, and even provided them with the trails for each day, all while finding alternatives to accommodate our requests.

My husband and I are from Canada and just returned from our 10 day self-guided cycling tour through Slovenia. This was our first cycling trip. Everything was arranged by HourAway. Bled to Piran: Western Slovenia Traverse

I went on the 8-day guided, E-MTB trip in the Slovenian Alps.  The scenery, varied landscapes, welcoming villages, stunning vistas, friendly guide, and excellent bikes combined to make it beyond my dreams. 

Our guide made the trip perfect -- his knowledge of Slovenia's history, mastery of the trails, ability to blend different riding desires & skill levels were excellent.  The E-bike was needed for the up-mountain climbs; but also was nimble enough to handle the narrow, flowy, rocky, single-trak trails that our guide purposefully sought out for me.  Each day we met at our hotel in Ljubljana and were driven 30-45 minutes to our trailhead in the countryside.  This worked out very well as I didn't have to research or plan anything -- just show up and ride!  

Our guide, Klemen, adapted each day's ride to accommodate weather, our riding wishes, and what cafes or mountain huts were open so we could get a bite to eat and drink. (Our group was 65, 75 and 80 years old.)  There are not enough adjectives to describe how much I enjoyed the trip. I definitely recommend www.hour-away.com and want to take another trip with them.

Slovenian Alps E-Bike Trip

Just arrived back from a guided week trip with Hour Away in Slovenia. It is a beautiful country and our tour with Klemen was based around walking and covered the highlights from the Alps to the coast.  

We particularly appreciated the flexibility of the tour which was needed due to the intense heat, and last minute changes on the walking aspect enhanced our trip.  Finding unique lunch spots and searching out special interest visits after Klemen got to know us over the early days added to our overall experience.  Our love of Olive oil was rewarded with a great visit to Eva Olive.

The Best Hikes in Slovenia: From the Alps to the Sea

A great introduction to Slovenia! We chose a self-guided tour. Nejc provided bikes and planned our route beginning in Ljubljana and going through – among many others! – Medvodah, Skofja Loka, Lake Bled, Radovna Valley, Kranjska Gora & Lake Jasna, Trenta Valley, Tolmin, Smartno & Kojsko, and Piran. 

The riding and views were spectacular! Nejc called daily to check how the trip was going. When we were hit with rain, we stayed inside for a day and Nejc adjusted our route on Ride GPS making the navigation seamless. Highly recommended!

There are many fine characteristics of our Bike and Hike experience with Nejc including the flexibility of arrangements, the off the beaten track places, remoteness of nature and the care and attention of Nejc. 

The scenery of the mountains with snow was spectacular as were the forests and rivers. Our morning tea and lunch breaks at niche restaurants with their local delicacies made it special.

My one week of hiking and biking in Slovenia was absolutely amazing. Nejc went out of his way to accommodate the needs of our group. He took us to places that only the locals would know about.

Cycling & Hiking Trip Slovenia

My wife and I just did a 14-day bike ride across northwestern Slovenia and the Istrian Peninsula, using HourAway services.

Klemen and Nejc, having been contacted by us with only around a month in advance, were able to plan a perfect itinerary, enabling us to visit places we could had never seen without their help.

Before traveling, we had two online meetings with them, so that they precisely identified what we were looking for and what we would be able to do.

The 13 stages of the trip were carefully designed and very well-balanced, alternating gravel roads, paved roads, forest tracks, single tracks.

The villages we passed through were amazing, the end destinations on each stage were fantastic, the views on the way simply fabulous!

The plan included great and varied suggestions of places to go, to eat, the highlights and points of interest in every stage.

The e-bikes provided for rental were great, allowing us to easily reach the destinations without any difficulty, even carrying our own luggage (due to the type if trip we decided to to).

The itineraries were followed using a precise gps route, in an easy-to-use phone app.

We didn’t have any major problems, but in spite of that they stayed in touch and accessible during all the trip to ensure everything was going well.

To sum up: beyond expectations!

We are grateful , and strongly recommend them for anyone wishing to have an unforgettable experience in the beautiful Slovenia.

The cycling itinerary included recommendations for lunch and dinner.   We met a lot of people that enjoyed talking to us about Slovenia and its culture.

Fantastic company to do a bike tour with. We did the four day Julian Alps tour. The scenery was stunning, the overnight hotel stays were comfortable and always included wonderful breakfasts. Communication with Nejc and Klemen was never an issue, questions always answered quickly and their description of the tour very detailed and informative. The use of the Riding with GPS app made the tour easy to navigate and the electric bikes were of a very high spec and in excellent condition and got us up all of the mountain passes easily.
